Teachers....
....The National Memorial Arboretum is open for school visits.
Apostlespace
The Chapel was built for the Millennium, and has a wonderful selection of carvings and embroideries which link with the symbolism of the site. Every day at 11.00 am, children can experience an act of remembrance, the only place in the country where this happens.

The plots and memorials each have their own special place and meaning. Children can explore the history of each one, draw and sketch, and collect data and information for more research or model making.

Civil DefencespaceThe Arboretum covers 150 acres of reclaimed gravel workings, and within this area are a wide variety of natural habitats, including emerging woodland, hay meadow, riverbank and marsh.
FlowersspaceEach of these has its own flora and fauna, and there is a wildlife officer available to help guide your work. There is a very wide range of tree species on the site, many chose for symbolic reasons, and offering a varied study of leaves, growth, uses, origins etc.

Opportunities for art and craft work are everywhere. Children can see examples of beautiful design, and then use the ideas to stimulate their own work. The Arboretum also has poems and other writing associated with different areas, and these too can be starting points for children's creativity.

The Arboretum has an education centre within the Visitor Centre and we can offer study opportunities for any age groups, including some unique first-hand archive materials of value to older students researching World War 11.

If you would like to discuss what the Arboretum could offer you and your children, or to arrange a visit, please contact Randie Cush, Education Co-ordinator at the Arboretum.
