The Terry Bunn Memorial Window and Bench

Earlier this year a new stained glass window was installed in Christ Church, Blakenall Heath in memory of Terry Bunn. He was well-known by many for his work in the parish, in the Walsall Deanery and in the Diocese of Lichfield. The window was made by Norgrove Studios, Redditch. The artists were Noel and Aiden and Ben Sinclair was responsible for the building and installation.

It is a beautiful work of art showing the many aspects of Terry's life. In the centre is St. Francis, surrounded by animals, birds and a stream full of fish; as many will know, Terry was a lay member of the Order of St. Francis. If the picture is studied carefully, Terry's dog, Eddie, can be seen. It is also possible to find the Church of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham; Terry was an enthusiastic pilgrim, journeying to Walsingham on many occasions. Another part of the window shows an altar and a bishop's chair. Terry's faith was the mainstay of his life, and he was known as 'the Bishop of Blakenall'. Over all this is a rainbow arch, reminding us of God‘s promise to the world.

On Sunday 11th July a Memorial and Dedication Service was held at Christ Church. This was attended by Ray and Peggy, Terry's brother and sister-in-law, and other members of the Bunn family During the service the window was blessed with holy water by Rev'd Paul Myers, an act that would truly have met with Terry‘s approval as he enjoyed 'a good splashing'.

Anyone who knew Terry and who would like to see the window please come to Christ Church. You will be made most welcome.

Also in September at Walsingham a bench was dedicated to the memory of Terry. This is sited just outside the Green Room - where Terry spent many happy hours.
