As we do this, I will probably ask the computer to split us into groups of 7 or 8 – an easier way to chat. I will be thinking of it like being around a table and sharing refreshments in the Parish Room or Hall.

As we start the service, Please “mute” your phone, i-pad, tablet, laptop or computer

We suggest, if online, you use “Speaker view” {This is the view with one large picture and several small ones - “click” with curser or finger on “Speaker view”}

Welcome and Introduction

Revd Martin Strang

Opening greeting

Grace, Mercy and Peace from God our Father,

and the Lord Jesus Christ, be with you

All; And also with you.

This is the day that the Lord has made

All; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

{Throughout the service please continue to respond

with the words in bold – still on “Mute”}

Opening prayer (together)

We have come together in the name of Christ

to offer our praise and thanksgiving,

to hear and receive God’s holy word,

to pray for the needs of the world,

and to seek the forgiveness of our sins,

that by the power of the Holy Spirit

we may give ourselves to the service of God. Amen

Hymn – O, Praise ye the Lord

Our thanks to Tony Murley for leading us in our sung worship.

O praise ye the Lord!
Praise him in the height;
rejoice in his word,
ye angels of light;
ye heavens, adore him
by whom ye were made,
and worship before him,
in brightness arrayed.

O praise ye the Lord!
Praise him upon earth,
in tuneful accord,
ye sons of new birth;
praise him who hath brought you
his grace from above,
praise him who hath taught you
to sing of his love.

O praise ye the Lord!
All things that give sound;
each jubilant chord
re-echo around;
loud organs, his glory
forth tell in deep tone,
and sweet harp, the story
of what he hath done.

O praise ye the Lord!
Thanksgiving and song
to him be outpoured
all ages along!
For love in creation,
for heaven restored,
for grace of salvation,
O praise ye the Lord!

Welcome of Ian and Karen

Psalm 89 v 1-4, 15-18

Read by Rodwell and Martha Kumzinda

O Lord, I will always sing of your constant love;
    I will proclaim your faithfulness forever.
I know that your love will last for all time,
    that your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky.

You said, “I have made a covenant with the man I chose;
    I have promised my servant David,
‘A descendant of yours will always be king;
    I will preserve your dynasty forever.’”

15 How happy are the people who worship you with songs,
    who live in the light of your kindness!
16 Because of you they rejoice all day long,
    and they praise you for your goodness.

17 You give us great victories;
    in your love you make us triumphant.
18 You, O Lord, chose our protector;
    you, the Holy God of Israel, gave us our king.

All Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

Confession and

Receiving God’s Forgiveness

Jesus says, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.’

So let us turn away from our sin and turn to Christ,

confessing our sins in penitence and faith.

All   Lord God,

we have sinned against you;

we have done evil in your sight.

We are sorry and repent.

Have mercy on us according to your love.

Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin.

Renew a right spirit within us

and restore us to the joy of your salvation;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the Father of all mercies

cleanse us from our sins,

and restore us in his image

to the praise and glory of his name,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All   Amen.

Blessed is the Lord,

All   for he has heard the voice of our prayer;

therefore shall our hearts dance for joy

All   and in our song will we praise our God.

The prayer of thanksgiving

Blessed are you, Lord our God,

creator and redeemer of all;

to you be glory and praise for ever.

From the waters of chaos you drew forth the world

and in your great love fashioned us in your image.

Now, through the deep waters of death,

you have brought your people to new birth

by raising your Son to life in triumph.

May Christ your light ever dawn in our hearts

as we offer you our sacrifice of thanks and praise.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit:

All   Blessed be God for ever.

Let us pray:

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us;

let us pray with one heart and mind.

Silence is kept.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,

so may the light of your presence, O God,

set our hearts on fire with love for you;

now and for ever.

All   Amen.

Hymn – As the Deer Pants for the Water

Our thanks to Anne Winnington for leading us in our sung worship.

As the deer pants for the water,

So my soul longs after You.

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship You.

You alone are my strength, my shield.

To You alone may my spirit yield.

You alone are my heart's desire

And I long to worship You.

You're my friend and you are my brother,

Even though You are a King.

I love you more than any other,

So much more than anything.

I want You more than gold or silver,

Only You can satisfy.

You alone are the real joy-giver

And the apple of my eye.

Hymn – I, the Lord of Sea and Sky

Our thanks to Geoff Moore for leading us in our sung worship.

I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?

I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?

Matthew 10 v 40-42 (GNB slightly modified)

Our thanks to Jacqueline Perkins for reading.

Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes God's messenger because they are God's messenger, will share in their reward. And whoever welcomes a good person because they are good, will share in their reward. 42 You can be sure that whoever gives even a drink of cold water to one of the least of these my followers because they are my follower, will certainly receive a reward.”

Reader: This is the word of the Lord

All: Thanks be to God

The Apostles’ Creed

All   I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting.

Paul and Helen Pooley lead us in our intercessions

After each section…

            Lord, in your mercy,

All       Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

Gathering our prayers together into one,

As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray:

All      Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours

now and for ever. Amen.

The Special Prayer (Collect) for 3rd Sunday after Trinity

We pray together:

Almighty God,

you have broken the tyranny of sin

and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts

whereby we call you Father:

give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service,

that we, and all creation, may be brought

to the glorious liberty of the children of God;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Hymn – O, Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder

Our thanks to Tony Murley and the Virtual Choir for leading us in our sung worship.

O LORD MY GOD, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;

I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods,

and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on a Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Concluding Comments

The Blessing

Almighty God,

who on the day of Pentecost

sent your Holy Spirit to the apostles

with the wind from heaven and in tongues of flame,

filling them with joy and boldness to preach the gospel:

by the power of the same Spirit

strengthen us to witness to your truth

and to draw everyone to the fire of your love;

And the Blessing of God Almighty,

Father, Son and holy Spirit

Be with you and all whom you love

Now and for evermore
