For all the Church Family

Good morning and thanks for joining us through You tube.As part of the Church of England here in Stafford we are delighted to be able to share together in Praise and Worship during these difficult times.Much of the service follows the words that have been sent out to the members of the two churches but if you donít have them then please donít worry as the message is the same.We, as Christians, follow the Way, the Truth and the life that was shown to us by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and our Saviour.

I would like to thank all those from both our churches who are contributing to this service this morning, those reading, leading the worship and our intercessor also to our Vicar, the Revíd Martin Strang and to our curate the Revíd Alison Thomas for helping with compiling this You Tube video.

We say together the words printed in bold.

Gathering to worship God

Greeting

Let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

All   Amen.

The Lord be with you

All   and also with you.

This is the day that the Lord has made.

All   We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Opening Prayer

All   Lord, direct our thoughts, and teach us to pray.

Lift up our hearts to worship you in spirit and in truth,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Hymn

Here I am to worship

Thanks to Anne Winnington for leading us in this opening song.

Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with you

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God

You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days
Oh so highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly you came to the earth you created
All for love's sake became poor

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God

You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

And, I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God

You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that you're my God

You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

Silence is kept and the Collect, the prayer of the day, the Eighth Sunday after Trinity is said.

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,

we beseech you to direct, sanctify and govern

both our hearts and bodies

in the ways of your laws

and the works of your commandments;

that through your most mighty protection,

both here and ever,

we may be preserved in body and soul;

through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Saying sorry to God

During the past few days there will have been times when we have fallen short of Godís expectations, but He is a willing and loving God keen to hear us and forgive us when we say sorry.

Letís say together the words in bold

Confession

God our Father,

we come to you in sorrow for our sins.

For turning away from you,

and ignoring your will for our lives;

Father, forgive us:

All   save us and help us.

For behaving just as we wish,

without thinking of you;

Father, forgive us:

All   save us and help us.

For failing you by what we do

and think and say;

Father, forgive us:

All   save us and help us.

For letting ourselves be drawn away from you

by temptations in the world about us;

Father, forgive us:††

All   save us and help us.

For living as if we were ashamed to belong to your Son;

Father, forgive us:

All   save us and help us.

Godís forgiveness.

Almighty God,

who in Jesus Christ has given us

a kingdom that cannot be destroyed,

forgive us our sins,

open our eyes to Godís truth,

strengthen us to do Godís will

and give us the joy of his kingdom,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Praise

The love of God has been poured into our hearts

through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

We dwell in him and he in us.

Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name,

make known his deeds among the peoples.

Sing to him, sing praises to him,

and speak of all his marvellous works.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty,

who was and is and is to come.

Blessed is the Lord

All   for he has heard the voice of our prayer;

therefore shall our hearts dance for joy

All   and in our song we will praise our God.

Hymn†††† Tell out my soul

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice;
Tender to me the promise of his word;
In God my Savior shall my heart rejoice

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his Name!
Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done;
His mercy sure, from age to age to same;
His holy Name--the Lord, the Mighty One

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might!
Powers and dominions lay their glory by
Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight
The hungry fed, the humble lifted high

Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word!
Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord
To children's children and for evermore!

Hearing and responding to the Word of God

Romans 8: 18-30Read for us this morning by Jenny Mash

Present Suffering and Future Glory

18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[h] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for Godís people in accordance with the will of God.

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[i] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

This is the word of the Lord

AllThanks be to God

Our second readingLuke 13: 1-5 read by Karen Perry

Repent or Perish

13 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, ďDo you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on themódo you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.Ē

This is the word of the Lord

AllThanks be to God

Affirmation of Faith

Let us join together in affirming our faith

Do you believe and trust in God the Father,

source of all being and life,

the one for whom we exist?

All   We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son,

who took our human nature,

died for us and rose again?

All   We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,

who gives life to the people of God

and makes Christ known in the world?

All   We believe and trust in him.

This is the faith of the Church.

All   This is our faith.

We believe and trust in one God,

Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen

Throughout our time here on Earth we need to approach our God recognizing the weaknesses we have and asking for his power to support us Ė through his grace

Hymn

Ye Servants of God

Ye servants of God

Your Master proclaim,

And publish abroad

His wonderful name;

The name all-victorious

Of Jesus extol;

His kingdom is glorious

And rules over all.

God ruleth on high,

Almighty to save;

And still He is nigh,

His presence we have;

The great congregation

His triumph shall sing,

Ascribing salvation

To Jesus our King.

ĎSalvation to God,

Who sits on the throne!í

Let all cry aloud,

And honour the Son;

The praises of Jesus

The angels proclaim,

Fall down on their faces,

And worship the Lamb.

Then let us adore,

And give Him His right,

All glory and power,

All wisdom and might,

All honour and blessing,

With angels above,

And thanks never ceasing,

And infinite love.

As we come to the end of this service for all Godís family I wish you the very best for the week ahead.May God bless you and keep you safe.

Closing Prayer and Conclusion

I ask you to join with me in a closing prayer

In darkness and in light,

in trouble and in joy,

help us, heavenly Father,

to trust your love,

to serve your purpose,

and to praise your name;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Blessing

Now imagine you are standing before the Cross and actively consider each of the first three parts of this being dealt with by throwing them at the cross and then raising our hands to heaven as we set our hopes on Christ

All our problems

we send to the cross of Christ.

All our difficulties

we send to the cross of Christ.

All the devilís works

we send to the cross of Christ.

All our hopes

we set on the risen Christ;

and the blessing of God almightyí

the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

be among us and remain with us always.

Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

All   In the name of Christ. Amen.
